Eisenberg's Kinderolympiade: Successful, Fun & 99 Luftballons.

Parents & kids had fun.

What surprised me the most was how many dads were running the gauntlet with their daughter's or son's. Let's face it, the various stations were rather tricky to complete for adults never mind the kids. Not that bad, but rather fun seeing a grown man trying to peel off a tiny bit of plastic from the back of an item that's turning into an eye of a worm reading token...

This was the station I helped out with. Creating a reading token from a few choice colourful items. Honestly, even we couldn't manage to peel the back of the ' eye ' easily and it made a dad or two break out in a sweat! But seriously, the parents ( dads, mums and even aunties ) were patient, encouraging and the best cheerleaders. The kids ranged from just out of nappies to teenagers. Fantastic.

There were eight stations in total and each one had to be completed in order to receive a stamp on the entry ticket. Not just any stamp, but a fun one. Ours was a green penguin. The station right behind ours was as you can see, set up for fun. Trying to throw a water filled balloon through any of the cut out holes. Honestly we got off lightly as we didn't get water on us once.

In front of us was the course for the wheelbarrow race: Rather fun, as a parent ( mostly the dad ) had to wheel their offspring around in a wheelbarrow. If you could only have seen the joy on the children's faces and dare I say the exhaustion on the parents. It was an extremely hot and sunny afternoon.

The last of the stations I captured on camera. The milking station. Gosh, how cool is this. Among the other stations was a sand pit that had been transformed into a treasure trove with hidden shells. Oh yes, they had to dig for treasure. When we set up everything in the morning, we buried a huge amount of shells and surprisingly they were all found and kept.

The event finished eventually and all the kids got a medal and a balloon. A Luftballon. The idea was that on a signal from the mayor, they would let go of their balloons at the same time. I had the camera read and waiting. A few kids got over excited and let go too early and a few were running away telling everyone that they would keep their treasured balloon.

How cool is that. Most of the balloons being sent off on their journey with a great cheer from the kids.

Did you make a wish too?

Biggi

P/S: Next year will be the 15th time our village has organized this event and huge plans are afoot for it. Why don't you book your holiday in our area and your kids can take part. From what I heard it will be the second Sunday in July...
